Die anonyme Erzählung von Alexander und Semiramis geht auf eine persisch-osmanische Vorlage des "Turandot"-Stoffes zurück, die nach den Konventionen des späten byzantinischen Liebesromans umgearbeitet wurde. In dieser Ausgabe werden die beiden erhaltenen Fassungen kritisch ediert. Gegenstand der ausführlichen Einleitung sind die Herkunft des Erzählstoffes, die literaturgeschichtliche Einordnung in den Kontext der byzantinischen Literatur des 14. Jahrhunderts sowie die sprachlich-rhetorische Analyse des Textes. Ein Wörterverzeichnis und eine Übersetzung runden die Ausgabe ab. The anonymous tale of Alexander and Semiramis harks back to a Persian-Ottoman version of Turandot material reworked according to the conventions of late Byzantine literary romance. Both versions are critically annotated in this edition, which also provides a detailed introduction about the origin of the narrative material, its place in fourteenth-century Byzantine literary history, and the linguistic analysis of the text. A word index and a translation complete the edition.
