Die Geschichte der deutschen Komödie im 17., 18. und frühen 19. Jahrhundert wurde bisher in der Literaturhistoriographie als lineare Abfolge von original deutschsprachigen Sprechtheaterwerken aus dem nord- und mitteldeutschen Raum erzählt. Dabei konzentrierte man sich fast ausschließlich auf diejenigen Werke, die sich den poetologischen Positionen der Frühaufklärung, der Aufklärung, des Sturm und Drang und der Klassik zuordnen ließen. Forschungen der letzten Jahrzehnte haben jedoch eine immense Fülle an bisher nicht berücksichtigten Dramen in zahlreichen Fassungen zu Tage gefördert, die sich nicht in dieses Narrativ einordenen lassen. Die vorliegende Studie entwirft deshalb ein Modell zirkulierender Werke, mit dem die Geschichte der Komödie dieses Zeitraumes unter Berücksichtigung vorhandener Materialien, historischer Kommunikationsprozesse und medialer Konstellationen in synchroner und diachroner Perspektive rekonstruiert werden kann. Dadurch sollen der Prädominanz von Musiktheater, von Bearbeitungen und Übersetzungen Rechnung getragen, die integrative Darstellung bisher kanonisierter und nicht-kanonisierter Werke ermöglicht und Verbindungen zwischen dem nord- und süddeutschen Raum aufgezeigt werden. Die Grundlage dieses Modells bilden Werke, die in verschiedene Fassungen, Formaten und Exemplaren vorliegen. Ihre Positionierung wird im Kontext von Theaterspielplänen, Bearbeitungs-, Publikations- und Diskurskontexten und im Wechselspiel verschiedener Gattungen des Sprech- und Musiktheaters, von Handschrift, Druck, Aufführung, Musik und Grafik rekonstruiert. Theoretische Grundlage ist dabei Bourdieus Kultursoziologie, die bezüglich der textbezogenen Schreib- und Autorenstrategien für die Analyse von Texten spezifiziert wird. In vier Werk-Fassungs-Reihen werden einfluss- und erfolgreiche Komödien des Musik- und Sprechtheaters aus dem 17., 18. und frühen 19. Jahrhundert untersucht, die sowohl in Hamburg als auch in Wien in voneinander abweichenden Fassungen auch auf Deutsch aufgeführt und publiziert werden. Im Zentrum des Vergleichs stehen die Themen und Formen der Komik im Text, die Komik wird jedoch auch punktuell in der Musik und in der Aufführungspraxis analysiert. Auf diese Weise können die gängige These von der Entkomisierung der Komödie seit dem 18. Jahrhundert hinterfragt und neue Verbindungen zwischen dem Norden und dem Süden des deutschsprachigen Gebietes aufgezeigt werden. The monograph provides a model for a new history of comedy linking canonical with non-canonical works, the north and the south of the German speaking area and accounts for the predominance of translations, adaptations and music theatre. It analyses influential and successful comedies from 17th, 18th and early 19th century, which were performed and published in German in both Hamburg and Vienna in different versions. In four series of works and their versions, the positioning of comedies in theatre programs, book series and theatre literature is reconstructed along their writing and authoring strategies, institutional, cultural and mental-historical conditions. Agents like publishers, other authors and theatre managers, institutions such as theatres, literary academies and and their prizes as well as other textual formations like poetics, reviews or cultural policy treatises are considered to reconstruct the position of texts and performances. The majority of them are translations and adaptations. The Italian and French originals as well as the context of literary production in their respective countries of origin are analysed, as well as the adaptation to the 'target literature‘. |
