Das dreibändige bio-bibliographische Handbuch erfasst die deutschsprachige Literatur der heutigen Länder Lettland, Estland und Litauen vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart. Einbezogen wurde auch St. Petersburg, weil eine starke Vernetzung von Deutsch-Balten mit der Hauptstadt des Russischen Reiches im Laufe der Zeit erfolgte. Vorab wird in die wechselvolle Geschichte mit ihren sozialen Schichtungen eingeführt, um hierdurch eine zeitgerechte Einordnung von Biographien und Texten der Autoren und Autorinnen zu ermöglichen. Hierzu dient ebenfalls ein Abriss über das Theaterleben als kulturelle Begegnungsstätte. Das Kriterium für die Aufnahme von Autoren und Autorinnen war primär das der Geburt in diesen Regionen. Da die Zuwanderung z. T. bis in das 19. Jahrhundert kennzeichnend für die deutsche Bevölkerung ist, war entscheidend für die Registrierung, ob dort die Hauptwirkungsstätte gewesen ist. Zahlreiche Persönlichkeiten haben sich zwar nur eine begrenzte Zeit in diesen Gebieten aufgehalten, aber wenn ihr Einfluss auf das geistige und sozio-kulturelle Leben nachhaltig war, fanden diese Autoren und Autorinnen Eingang in das Handbuch. Die vielseitigen Beziehungen familiärer, beruflicher oder interessenmäßiger Art unter den Persönlichkeiten sind durch Verweise kenntlich gemacht, da hierdurch das engmaschige Netz unter den Autoren und Autorinnen sichtbar wird. Die Zeitereignisse führten dazu, dass viele Verfasser in Deutschland, in Österreich und der Schweiz dann ihre Hauptschaffenszeit hatten, was natürlich nicht ausgeblendet werden konnte. Hinzu kommt, dass deutschsprachige Autoren aus dem Baltikum oder aus St. Petersburg während der Sowjetherrschaft automatisch der russlanddeutschen Literatur zugeordnet wurden. Sie fanden ebenfalls Eingang in das Handbuch. Die Werke sind so vollständig wie möglich aufgenommen worden, wobei die damaligen weit verbreiteten Publikationsmöglichkeiten in Zeitschriften, Anthologien und Reihen, soweit der Autopsie zugänglich, ebenfalls Berücksichtigung fanden. Durch die Angabe der Auflagen von Werken wurde versucht, deren Rezeption widerzuspiegeln. Hiermit soll ein Überblick gewährleistet werden, ob sie für ein Werk gar nicht bestand, ob sie kontinuierlich über Jahrzehnte, sogar bis in die heutige Zeit reicht, oder ob sie abhängig von den Interessenphasen der Rezipienten in Phasen verläuft. Wenn zu den Werken Rezensionen erschienen, sind diese aufgelistet worden. Es wurden u. a. Klappentexte, zeitgenössische Äußerungen, Vorworte und Pressestimmen zitiert. Das Handbuch wollte vermeiden, nur ein reines Datenwerk zu sein, sondern ist bestrebt, Einblick in die Inhalte der Publikationen zu geben, um so das sozio-kulturelle Umfeld, die Interessengebiete, die Denkhaltungen und Themen der deutsch-baltischen Autoren u. Autorinnen sichtbar zu machen. Die Autorinnen legen damit das erste umfassende Lexikon der deutschsprachigen Literatur des Baltikums vor, das für Literaturwissenschaftler und Historiker gleichermaßen von Interesse ist. |

The three-volume bio-bibliographical handbook comprises the German-language literature of present-day countries of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania from the Middle Ages to the present. Literature from St. Petersburg has also been included due to the strong ties that were established between German-Balts and the capital of the Russian Empire over the course of time. The work begins with an introduction to the changeful history and its social stratifications in order to provide proper chronological classification of the biographies and texts of the authors. To this end, an overview of theater life as a cultural meeting place is also included.The handbook aims for the most extensive compilation possible of the individual works. With this handbook, the authors present the first extensive lexicon of German-language literature of the Baltic States, which will be of interest to literary specialists as well as historians. |
