Die vorliegende Untersuchung nimmt eine Neubestimmung dessen vor, was die sogenannten »Minne- und Aventiureromane« signifikant von anderen Versromanen unterscheidet und analysiert zu diesem Zweck Verfahren der Sinnkonstituierung im »Reinfried von Braunschweig« sowie im »Apollonius von Tyrland« des Heinrich von Neustadt. Beide Werke sind bezüglich der verwendeten poetischen Techniken und in bezug auf das in ihnen aufscheinende Weltbild traditionell konservativen Mustern des Hochmittelalters verpflichtet. Nicht zwischen minne und âventiure, sondern zwischen Babylon und Jerusalem, als Sinnbildern der civitas terrena bzw. civitas dei, ereignet sich die Handlung der (besser als »Herrschafts- und Staatsromane« zu bezeichnenden) Texte. Es geht in ihnen um die Suche des mittelalterlichen Menschen nach heilsgeschichtlich richtiger Lebensführung und der daraus resultierenden Legitimation herrscherlicher Macht. Höfische Minne und ritterliches Abenteuer als Ausdrucksformen adliger Existenz werden in Kombination mit dem Brautwerbungsschema funktionalisiert, um diese Themen vor dem Hintergrund christlicher Heilsgeschichte paradigmatisch zu entfalten. Da der »Apollonius« in dieser Hinsicht als ein Gegenentwurf zum »Reinfried« konzipiert ist, wird ein Diskursverhältnis zwischen den späten »Minne- und Aventiureromanen« sichtbar, aus dem sich Konsequenzen für die Beschreibung der literarischen Reihe ergeben. |

The study analyzes strategies serving the constitution of meaning in »Reinfried and Apollonius«, proceeding from there to propose a new definition of what it is that significantly distinguishes romances on courtly love (Minne) and adventure from other verse romances. As specific expressions of aristocratic identity and existence, courtly love and knightly adventure are dovetailed with the topic of bridal wooing to reflect the paradigmatic status of the theme of power legitimization and the visibly exemplary nature of rulers and their life-styles against the background of the history of Christian redemption. As »Apollonius« was designed as a riposte to »Reinfried«, the two romances are clearly seen to stand in a discourse relationship to each other. |
