Fascinated by the Alps, the authors spend most of their free time in the mountains. Always searching for new and special places, ranging from stop-offs, to final destinations for a peaceful stay, they have now compiled a wide variety of different kinds of accommodation. Buildings in the book range from houses that have been owned by one family for generations and shaped by its various characters, through chalets renovated to the most modern standards, and to solitary huts. The authors have chosen projects built using materials and sustainable construction methods in keeping with the Alpine environment that also represent successful spatial and atmospheric concepts. But this book is not only about architecture; the authors also tell stories of the houses' owners and the buildings' development and management over the years, as well as tales of Alpine life and people. Background information on construction and tips on travelling in the Alps, general maps, and a list of addresses make this book an outstanding travel guide for readers interested in architecture and for anyone who loves the Alps. |

Fasziniert von den Alpen verbringen die beiden Autoren einen Großteil ihrer Freizeit in den Bergen. Bei der Suche nach immer wieder neuen und besonderen Orten – sei es als Zwischenstopp oder auch um anzukommen und Ruhe zu finden – haben sie inzwischen eine Vielzahl an Unterkünften zusammengetragen. Von Häusern, die seit Generationen im Familienbesitz sind und von den unterschiedlichen Charakteren geprägt wurden über modern sanierte Chalets bis zur einsamen Hütte reicht das Portfolio der vorgestellten Bauten. Der Umgebung gerecht werdende Materialien und nachhaltige Bauweisen beeinflussen die Auswahl der Projekte dabei ebenso wie das gelungene räumliche und atmosphärische Konzept.
