It was mainly Klopstock’s poetry that was responsible for the sustained and immensely favorable reception of his work after his death. In contrast to the old edition by Franz Muncker and Jaro Pawel from 1889, five additional poems have been included. Texts which were previously only rudimentarily edited have now been completely edited. The new edition contains far more parallelizations of early and late versions than the old edition. The main basis of the new edition is Klopstock’s last edition of odes published in 1798. It also served as guide for the chronological arrangement of the poems.
