N2  - “Human dignity is inviolable” – This familiar first line of the German constitution is hard to understand substantively and to apply to actual situations of conflict, as this book analyzing bioethical debates in West Germany shows. From the abortion debate (1970s) to the preimplantation diagnosis debate (2010s), it traces the transformation of our understanding of human dignity and examines the causes and central figures in this transformation; „Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar“ – Der geläufige erste Grundgesetzartikel ist schwierig inhaltlich zu erfassen und auf konkrete Konfliktsituationen zu übertragen, wie diese Arbeit mit der Analyse ausgewählter bioethischer Debatten der BRD zeigt. Von der Abtreibungsdebatte (1970er) bis zur Präimplantationsdiagnostikdebatte (2010er) wird der Wandel des Menschenwürdeverständnisses nachgezeichnet, Ursachen ergründet und zentrale Akteure identifiziert
