N2  - Die bestehenden Online Public Access Catalogues (OPACs) weisen Unterschiede auf in der Auswahl und Komplexität ihrer operativen Eigenschaften, der Terminologie und der angebotenen Hilfsmöglichkeiten. Da viele Bibliotheken schon über OPAC verfügen, besteht ein Bedarf, Richtlinien oder Empfehlungen sowie gute Praxisbeispiele zu sammeln, um Bibliotheken zu helfen, das Design der Bildschirme für ihr OPAC dahingehend zu erstellen oder zu verändern, dass es den Bedürfnissen der Nutzer entgegenkommt. Diese Richtlinien richten sich an Bibliothekare, die mit der Aufgabe betraut sind, OPAC Software an Kundenwünsche anzupassen, sowie an Verkäufer und Hersteller dieser Software. Die Richtlinien sind hauptsächlich für allgemeine Bibliotheken erstellt, die über Quellensammlungen aus den Geisteswissenschaften, den Sozialwissenschaften und den Natur- und angewandten Wissenschaften verfügen. Die Richtlinien sind so konzipiert, dass sie zu jeder Art von Katalog passen, unabhängig von der Art der benutzten Schnittstellen und der Technologie; Existing Online Public Access Catalogues (OPACs) demonstrate differences in the range and complexity of their functional features, terminology, and help facilities. While many libraries already have OPACs, there is a need to bring together, in the form of guidelines or recommendations, a corpus of good practice to assist libraries in designing or re-designing the displays for their OPACs, taking into consideration the needs of users. The audience for these guidelines is librarians charged with customizing OPAC software and vendors and producers of this software. The guidelines are mainly designed for general libraries with collections of resources in the humanities, the social sciences, and the pure and applied sciences. The guidelines are intended to apply to any type of catalogue, independently of the kind of interface and technology used
