Der Band bietet damit auch Impulse für die neuen theoretisch-methodischen Ansätze der Ökokritik und der Raumsoziologie; Current ecological and environmental problems put the concept of nature more and more into the center of debates. This book presents analyses and case studies that explore the function and meaning of nature within the process of modernization at the epochal threshold of 1900 anew. In a trans-national, Northern European comparison, the contributions address the medial representations of nature (in literature, philosophy, film, photography) as well as the colonization of space (in tourism, travels, sports, environmental and cultural heritage protection). Thus, this volume also offers stimuli for the new theoretical-methodical approaches of eco-criticism and spatial sociology
