Summary: Ländlicher Raum spielt eine oft unterschätzte Rolle für sozialen, ökonomischen oder ideologischen Wandel. Diese Rolle kann anhand der Re-/Produktion räumlicher Akteure untersucht werden, die direkt oder indirekt durch politische Interventionen in ländliche Gemeinden eingeführt wurden. Entlang Fallstudien aus Griechenland, der Türkei, Italien, Portugal und Österreich diskutieren Wissenschaftler:innen die Produktion kollektiver Identitäten in und durch ländliche Gebiete während der großen gesellschaftlichen, politischen und wirtschaftlichen Umwälzungen des 20. Jahrhunderts, indem sie sich auch auf die Konfliktpotentiale solcher Veränderungen konzentrieren, ermöglichen die Autor:innen ein besseres Verständnis der räumlichen Dynamiken, die den kulturellen und sozialen Sphären der Ländlichkeit des 20. This role can be studied by looking at the re/production of spatial agents that were caused by direct or indirect political interventions in rural communities. In this book, scholars looking at case studies from Greece, Turkey, Italy, Portugal, and Austria discuss the making of identity in and through rural areas, which have dramatically changed under different political, social, and economic conditions from the turn of the 20th century up until today.
