520 _aLong praised for its accuracy, readability, and insight, the Canadian Annual Review of Politics and Public Affairs offers a synoptic appraisal of the year's developments in Canadian politics.Although the world entered a new century and a new millennium at the beginning of 2000, it was the year 2001 that truly seemed to herald a new age. With the events of 11 September, and in the months that followed, Canadian public life, like that of much of the world, was reconfigured. The year will continue to be defined by the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and by the responses taken by the United States and its neighbours and allies, including Canada. It was an eventful year in Canada in many ways, particularly in regard to international affairs. One of the most significant events was the Summit of the Americas, which brought the heads of government in the Americas to Quebec City. The summit was held within an immense exclusion zone and was surrounded by protest, some of it violent. The Canadian Annual Review is unique in its collection and presentation of information and analysis of the year in politics. Supplemented by a detailed calendar and subject and name indexes, the volume is a reliable, easy-access reference on the political scene in Canada.
