Er ist in den letzten Jahrzehnten auch außerhalb der Fachwissenschaft bekannt geworden, und zwar durch Buchpublikationen, wissenschaftliche Artikel und vor allem auch durch Konzerte und Aufnahmen zur mittelalterlichen Musik. Der Band bilanziert das heutige Wissen über diesen Autor und verweist auf die Schwerpunkte einer weiteren Beschäftigung, und zwar nicht nur in literaturwissenschaftlicher, sondern auch in geschichts-, musik- und kunstgeschichtlicher Hinsicht.
