520			_aMusic theatre represents a provocative challenge both for drama studies and musicology. Methodologically, analytically, and also historiographically, the blend of singing, language, voice, acting, body, and movement on the stage poses problems, particularly as the majority of historical theatre forms (Posse, operetta, revue, modern alienation theatre, etc.) are situated somewhere between the two poles of 'pure' opera and drama. Tackling these problems on an interdisciplinary plane is doubly urgent as they open out on the pressing issues involved in extending the purview of traditional drama research to encompass such aspects as a cultural history of voice and body, perceptual relations, and the way these are affected by different media.
520			_aMusiktheater stellt für Theater- wie für Musikwissenschaft eine provokative Aufgabe dar. Methodisch und analytisch wie auch historiographisch ergeben sich Probleme aus dem Zusammenwirken von Gesang, Sprache, Stimme, Darstellung, Körper und Bewegung auf der Bühne, zumal die Mehrzahl historischer Theaterformen, von der Posse bis zur Operette, von der Revue bis zum modernen Verfremdungstheater - zu schweigen von den außereuropäischen Theaterkulturen - sich zwischen den ›reinen‹ Polen von Oper und Schauspieltheater bewegen. Diese Probleme verlangen interdisziplinären Zugang um so mehr, als sich Grundfragen erweiterter Theaterforschung anschließen, die zur Kulturgeschichte der Stimme und des Körpers, der Wahrnehmungsverhältnisse und ihrer medialen Prägung führen.
