Der Einsatz von Schutzmaßnahmen vor Naturgefahren ist zentraler Aspekt der alpinen Kultur. Dabei verwundert es, dass die Diskussion darüber fachintern geführt wird, in der Öffentlichkeit jedoch kaum wahrzunehmen ist. Die Zusammenschau von Schutzarchitekturen, dem imaginierten Bild der Alpen und dem langsamen Prozess der Adaptierung der öffentlichen Bildwelten an den Zustand der Verbauungen, führt nun zusammen was bis dato getrennt betrachtet wird. Nämlich, dass die touristisch konsumierten Landschaften mit einem nicht unerheblichen Aufwand erst stabilisiert werden müssen. Das Buch zeigt auf, wie die Produktion von Sicherheitsräumen im Spannungsfeld von Ästhetik und Technik wirksam wird und bietet Perspektiven auf Landschaft, die über die vermeintliche Unberührtheit von Natur hinausführen. The use of protective measures against natural hazards is a key factor in alpine culture. It is surprising that discussion of this is conducted internally, but scarcely perceived by the public. A synopsis of the protective architecture, the perceived image of the Alps, and the slow process of adapting public images to the condition of the structures brings together what has been considered separately in the past. That is, the landscapes consumed by tourists must first be stabilised at considerable cost.
