Summary: Die relationes des Q. Aurelius Symmachus sind amtliche Berichte, die dieser als Stadtpräfekt von Rom in den Jahren 384 und 385 an die Kaiser schrieb. Bekannt sind sie vor allem durch die dritte relatio, die den Streit um den Victoria-Altar thematisiert. Die übrigen Schreiben behandeln ein großes Repertoire an Themen: Sie berichten etwa von Versorgungsproblemen in Rom, der Ausrichtung von Spielen oder unqualifiziertem Personal, aber auch von einigen Zivil- und Strafprozessen. Auf diese Weise beleuchten sie eindrucksvoll die Verwaltungs- und Rechtspraxis jener Jahre.
